BLOODIED, well-dressed and sporting a manic laugh, the first pictures released of Villanelle show the second series of Killing Eve is unlikely to disappoint.

The new series of Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Bafta-winning, cat-and-mouse drama is due to drop on Saturday, June 8, 2019, and eager fans were given a taste of what's to come in the eagerly awaited trailer.

In the trailer, Villanelle is seen leaving her hospital bed and squirming as she has to put her feet in some unfashionable shoes to make her escape.

Her voiceover says "sometimes when you love someone you do crazy things".

Eve is then seen confessing to colleagues that she stabbed her rival.

The tension between the pair is palpable as boss Carolyn Martens tells Eve she must find the villain.

She tells the MI5 agent: "Stop it Eve, I can feel your excitement."

Martens, played by Fiona Shaw asks: "Why are you and Villanelle so interested in each other?"

Starring Golden Globe winners Jodie Comer as hired killer Villanelle and Sandra Oh as MI5 agent Eve Polastri, series two will pick up 36 seconds after the events of the season one finale.

It ended with an injured Villanelle on the run after the explosive confrontation with nemesis Eve, and the MI5 agent determined to find her before somebody else does.

In the first images released Villanelle is pictured covered in blood, while another still shows Sandra as Eve hugging her knees in a bath.

In an interview with last year, Comer revealed the best part of playing the "charismatic, cold-blooded killer" was that the character was "just so full of life [so] to be able to explore that and not hold back, to just push it and push it and push it".

Teasing the show, chief writer and executive producer Emerald Fennell told : "Eve has done something, which may have changed her forever, that will have repercussions with every relationship in her life."

BBC America announced the second series of Killing Eve will drop on April 8 at 8pm for US viewers and the UK release date has been confirmed as June 8, 2019.

It will air on BBC One with a primetime slot at 9.15pm.

New additions to the cast include Nina Sosanya and Edward Bluemel alongside guest stars Julian Barratt, Henry Lloyd-Hughes and Shannon Tarbet.

The series is based on the “Codename Villanelle” novellas by Luke Jennings and is executive produced by Sally Woodward Gentle, Lee Morris, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Gina Mingacci and Emerald Fennell.
