For many, an egg symbolises breakfast but, as Sir David (right) points out, our familiarity with the humble chicken’s egg means we don’t notice how remarkable they actually are.

He looks at some of the 10,000 different types of eggs and shows off their amazing colours and shapes, explaining the reasons for the disparities between them.

There’s also information about the way that eggs are formed and laid, and he reveals the lengths to which some birds go to keep them warm.

As ever, it’s a pleasure to spend an hour with the legend.

Imagine enjoying dinner in a restaurant when a man’s head pops through a table display and offers you the chance to win £100.

That’s one of the many stunts on this bizarre new prank-show-meets-game-show. An army of hosts, including kids’ TV presenters Sam and Mark, hit the streets to hand out prizes. Good fun.

For the first time this series, The Voice is officially live! Tonight, all eight remaining artists perform, and then it’s up to you to put your favourite four through to next week’s final.

The stakes couldn’t be higher, but so far the likes of ultra-confident Tai (above) and utterly flawless Lucy haven’t put a foot wrong.

Will they continue their success or will they crack under the pressure?

Hamlet, 9pm, BBC Two

Sherlock’s Andrew Scott (below) plays the Danish prince in this production of the Shakespeare play, filmed as-live from London’s Harold Pinter Theatre, and he’s joined by acclaimed actress Juliet Stevenson as Hamlet’s mother Gertrude. It may sound heavy-going and the language is sometimes hard to follow, but the staging makes it feel like a modern thriller and the acting ensures it’s a more-than-worthwhile watch.

Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, 7pm, ITV

We’re pleased to see this back in its rightful place, as the jewel in ITV’s Saturday-night crown. While there will be an Ant-shaped hole after his drink-drive arrest, we’re sure Dec (above) will do a grand job. Stephen Merchant is the Star Guest announcer and Paloma Faith performs on the the End of the Show Show.
