'It's quite rare'
Gemma Arterton admits she was pleased to play a ‘wise and knowing’ lead character in war flick Their Finest
The actress received rave reviews for her part in the comedy drama
GEMMA Arterton's performance as screen writer Catrin Cole in war flick Their Finest was praised across the board by critics.
And the actress has admitted she enjoyed playing a such 'rare' role in an exclusive featurette about the British comedy drama.

Set in 1940s London, as the country dealt with the Blitz, inexperienced screenwriter, Catrin (Gemma Arterton) and a makeshift cast and crew work under fire to make a film to lift the country’s flagging spirits and inspire America to join the war.
Partnered with fellow screenwriter, Buckley (Sam Claflin), the pair set off to make a film that will warm the hearts of the nation whilst navigating the constant threat of The Blitz, limited resources and the demands of egotistical actor, Ambrose Hilliard (Bill Nighy).
"Speaking about her I was really surprised by the character of Catrin, she's really wise and knowing but doesn't that herself and I think for a main character to be like that is quite rare.
"I was quite pleased that someone had the confidence to write a character like that."
She continued to praise the film as she added: "It just felt like we haven't seen a film like this before. And also, the dialogue is not like most films."
The film is based on the Lissa Evans novel Their Finest Hour and a Half and is a witty, romantic and moving portrayal of a young woman finding her way, and her voice, in the mayhem of war and the movies.

Gemma made her film debut in the comedy film St Trinian's (2007).
Her breakthrough role was in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace (2008), playing Bond Girl Strawberry Fields, which won her an Empire Award for Best Newcomer.
