Bond expert Matthew Field, shared his reaction to the news and speculated who might play Bond.
Matthew is on the board of directors of the Ian Fleming Foundation and the co-author of Some Kind Of Hero: The Remarkable Story Of The James Bond Films.
He told the DM: "Amazon are most certainly going to get a 'tentpole film' out first, to set the agenda for the new Bond universe.
"[But] The whole success of the relaunch will depend on them getting the casting of James Bond just right."
Matthew added: "I don't think we'll hear a name officially for a little while yet. They'll take time to get it right.
"It won't be an A-list movie star like Cillian Murphy or Tom Hiddleston – they are too well known at this point."
Many potential names have been floated as to who could be cast as the next Bond, which is always a hot topic of conversation.
James Nelson-Joyce, 36, who stars in This City is Ours, was the latest name to be added to the list, as was The White Lotus star Patrick Schwarzenegger, 31.
Theo James' name was thrown into the hat after he wowed fans in Netflix's The Gentlemen last year.
