The Nightly Show viewers slam ITV show and call for the news to return in its place as David Walliams makes his debut
The comedian was the first guest host of the new entertainment show
IT might have proved to be a ratings hit but The Nightly Show didn’t exactly go down too well with viewers.
The new late night chat show made its debut last night with comedian David Walliams as its very first guest presenter.
The Britain’s Got Talent judges cracked jokes and chatted to guests Martin Clunes and Nina Conti, and even gave one lucky audience member a couple of free tickets to Los Angeles.
But viewers at home were left disappointed by the new programme and took to Twitter to complain and call for the News at Ten to be put back.
One wrote: “Never mind the Oscars - whoever made the mistake of putting #thenightlyshow on @ITV at 10pm instead of @itvnews should be sacked! Epic fail!”
Another added: “I applaud ITV's ambition re: #thenightlyshow but moving News At Ten around has never worked out. You'd think they'd learned that by now.”
And another viewer commented: “Terrible. So awful I had to watch to believe it was real. We'll have the #news back thanks!”
Walliams, 45, is hosting this first week of the show and among his guests will be Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall, boxer David Haye and The Voice UK judges.
The show is ITV’s attempt to introduce an American-style late night chat show and other celebrity guest hosts lined up over the next few weeks include comedian John Bishop and celebrity chef Gordan Ramsay.
And while some were left unimpressed with the first show, some took to social media to actually defend it and said they would tune in again.
One said, “I personally loved #thenightlyshow! Something refreshing!” while another added: “Catching up with #thenightlyshow with @davidwalliams and it's loooooking good.”
And one other viewer wrote: “I rather enjoyed #thenightlyshow Thought @davidwalliams did good and who doesn't love Martin Clunes?”
