What is Love Island all about?

Love Island sends a host of singletons looking for a good time over to a luxurious villa for a summer of passion.

Known for its hot and heavy sex scenes, the contestants are encouraged to pair up and convince the public they have found love.

In a twist at the end of the series, the winning couple are asked to either split the cash, or take the entire £50,000 pot home for themselves.

Can you apply to be on Love Island 2018?

Applications are already being taken for Love Island 2018 via .

The application form reads: “ITV2 are looking for vibrant singles from across the UK who want to head to the sun, in search of a summer of love.

Who were the contestants in Love Island 2017?

Olivia Attwood

Before taking part in the 2017 series of Love Island, Olivia described her profession as being a Motorsport Grid Girl.

Working around noisy race tracks might be one reason that Olivia likes “loudmouth” men – she must be used to loud noises.

As well as looking for love, Olivia says she taking part on the ITV2 show “For the experience”.

Amber Davies

Before appearing on Love Island, Amber declared that her occupation was as a dancer.

She has also worked as an entertainer as part of London’s circus themed club night Cirque Le Soir – which required her to strip down to lingerie in the North London club.

On the show she has got frisky with her partner Kem - in the shared bedroom - being one of two girls to have done so in the villa so far.

Kem Cetinay

Kem is a 21 year old hairdresser from Essex who likes to describe himself as a "cheeky chappy".

But he's not just any old hairdresser - Kem has worked the locks of the likes of Spencer Matthews, Calum Best and all the Towie lads.

What he wants to get out of Love Island is "the girl version of me."

So far he's had sex with Amber in the shared bedroom, just ten days into the contest.

Camilla Thurlow

Before appearing on Love Island, Camilla described her job as being in the field of Explosive Ordnance Disposal.

She has worked for the charity The Halo Trust – which was made famous in 1997 when the late Princess Diana visited the charity.

Camilla Thurlow was linked to Prince Harry in July 2014 when it was reported she locked lips with the fifth-in-line to the throne.

Montana Brown

The 21-year-old is from Hertfordshire, England.

Montana describes herself as being "posh" and says: "I've been brought up well and I've been really lucky to go a private school".

Most recently she studied Economics at Bournemouth University.

Montana became the third girl this year to have sex in the villa - with her boy Alex.  She said; “A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. Alex is gorgeous so it can be hard not to do stuff but no regrets as I think it brings us closer together.”

Alex Beattie

Alex Beattie is a 22-year-old Personal Trainer from Newcastle.

When asked how to describe himself he said: "I think I’m an all rounder – I socialise with lots of different groups of people so I’ve got loads of varied chat."

But he said he’s “picky” when it comes to girls: "I don’t date loads of girls. I am quite picky about who I would go on a date with."

Chris Hughes

Chiselled Chris Hughes, 24, is a golf clothing ambassador from Gloucestershire who is a surprise late addition to the villa.

He believes his USP is his outgoing personality and country boy status, which gives the girls a different option to the series' slick city boys.

An old-fashioned romantic, Chris says he falls in love at first sight and admits that if he likes a girl, "it could get serious quickly".

And the ladies of Love Island will be pleased to know that the generous hunk likes treating his lucky lovers to hidden letters to make them feel special.

Marcel Somerville

Marcel Somerville is a 31-year-old musician from London who was a member of English hip hop group, Blazin’ Squad, from 2001 to 2004.

The singer had fond memories of his time in the group as he admitted: “They were the best days of my life. People do still recognise me when I’m out.

“People the majority of the time want a selfie. I think I look really different these days, though. I feel like I’ve got much better looking!”

Gabrielle Allen

Gabrielle Allen is a professionally-trained dancer and health fanatic from Liverpool who works as a fitness instructor.

She loves travelling, and often disappears for months at a time, so she’ll be right at home in the exotic surroundings of the Love Island villa.

The 25-year-old also admits that she’s “a nightmare at times, probably – maybe a bit hard work.”

Jamie Jewitt

Jamie Jewitt is 27 and a model from Essex.

Lived in New York for 10 years and has worked for Calvin Klein.

On his arrival, Jamie chose Tyla, Amber and Camilla for a date.

Jessica Shears

Jessica is a curvy glamour model from Devon, who was looking for a genuine connection on this series of Love Island.

In an unearthed interview the star told of her desire to wrestle professionally and admitted The Rock was her inspiration.

Jessica has already caught the eye of Celebrity Big Brother star Calum Best, and has been revealed to have made a sex tape with former love Rogan O’Connor from Ex On The Beach.

Jessica and villa partner Dom Leaver had sex on the programme ten days in.

Chloe Crowhurst

Chloe Crowhurst is an executive assistant hailing from Essex – and she was hoping the luck of the region rubs off on her after Essex boy Nathan Massey won Love Island last year.

She describes herself as “really personable and bubbly and outgoing”. She adds: “I’m a bit clumsy and funny and I don’t take myself too seriously.”

The 22 year old reckons she’s great fun to be around, saying: “I’m funny, I have a laugh all the time.

Tyne-Lexy Clarson

Tyne-Lexy Clarson, 20, is a university student from Birmingham who’s not lacking confidence – and she believes this, along with her sense of humour, will mark her out.

The talkative beauty describes herself as “ditzy, very optimistic and a huge flirt and a tease.”

This isn’t her first time on the telly, but it’s probably unlikely you remember her brief stint as an extra on Shameless when she was 14.

However Tyne-Lexy became the second to leave the villa after Jonny picked Camilla over her.

Sam Gowland

21 year old Sam is an oil rig worker and is originally from Middlesborough.

It's his first time on reality TV, but Sam's got a couple of claims to fame. His cousin Jonathan Grounds plays football for Birmingham City, and he's mates with Geordie Shore star Holly Hagan.

He watched every series of Love Island before this one, and always thought he would be a good fit for the show, but he was in a relationship at the time so couldn't apply.

Dominic Lever

Dominic is a 26-year-old careers advisor from Manchester who is desperate for someone "with chat".

The serial-dating lothario reckons that good looking people are "absolute melts" but that he's got the chat to back it up.

He's definitely not modest and whilst he does love himself he is almost certainly going to upping the ante to have some fun on the island.

Dom had a lot of fun with Jessica, as they had sex in the private hideaway ten days in.

Georgia Harrison

The former TOWIE beauty made an instant impact in the villa and was hoping to win.

But it was not to be and Georgia and Sam Gowland were evicted from the show.

The pair are now said to be discussing staying together, despite doubts over their relationship.

Harley Judge

Harley is a grounds worker from Norwich who is apparently "a bit of a Ken doll."

The 22-year-old doesn't have much of  a dating life and his pals would say that he's married to the gym.

He said his biggest nightmare girl in the Love Island villa would be someone who is childish and whiney.

He's quite sure of himself finding love though, he says "I graft in my job, so I would graft for a girl."

However, Harley became the first contestant to be evicted after Camilla chose new boy Jonny over him.

Jonny Mitchell

Jet-setter Jonny Mitchell is a 26-year-old business director hailing from Essex who joined the action late with Chris.

He believes his Love Island USP is his globetrotting lifestyle – Jonny travels so much that he says he "pretty much lives abroad", so is more than happy to be away from home.

The Lothario says he's spent the past year "making up for lost time" after splitting up with his fiancee, who he'd been with for five years and proposed to in the romantic tropical island of Bali.

It's perhaps understandable then that Jonny admits some former flames might label him a commitaphobe, and that he's broken a few hearts in his time.

Mike Thalassitis

Mike is 24 and has played as a semi-pro footballer in the UK and in for the national team in Cyprus.

Born in Edmonton, he’s played for a range of teams including St Albans and Chelmsford, and is currently signed to Welling United.

Describing himself as “tall, dark and handsome”, Mike vowed not to be a “villain” on the show.

Craig Lawson

Craig Lawson is a 27-year-old personal Trainer from Barking in Essex.

Before entering the villa he said: “I’ll be honest, all of the other guys (in the villa) are all talk. When it comes to confrontation, they just back down.

“No disrespect, they are nice guys, but I am not a yes man. I’m very much a man’s man, I’m very confident, whereas I think the guys in there are quite insecure."

Danielle Sellers

Danielle Sellers is a glamour model from Bexhill in East Sussex.

The 22-year-old beauty made her debut in The Sun on Page 3 in July 2016.

When she’s not modelling, she loves to settle down for a bit of Real Housewives drama and also enjoys partying in the sunshine of Magaluf, Ibiza and Dubai.

Amelia Peters

Amelia Peters is an 18-year-old part-time teaching assistant and model from Bexley in Kent.

Before entering the Med's kinkiest holiday home, she said: “Everyone in there seems very eager, but I am very laid back. I am quite chilled out and I wouldn’t get my hopes up on things.

“If I fancied a boy I would go for it, but I wouldn’t put pressure on it.”

Chyna Ellis

Chyna Ellis is a 22-year-old fashion stylist from Essex.

She has an unusual name, but is on hand to explain: "When I was born I looked like a china doll so that’s why they called me that."

The blonde beauty says she’s “outgoing” when it comes to guys: "My friends would probably say I’m very outgoing but also quite goofy.

"I tend to come out with very embarrassing things. A guy will either take it as me being cute or think I’m crazy."

Ellisha-Jade White

Ellisha-Jade White is a 22-year-old entrepreneur from Southampton.

As you might expect from someone who's tasted business success, she's a strong independent woman.

"I work really hard, and I have my own business, so I don’t rely on other people," she explains.

"Some girls really need a boyfriend, but I’m not one of those girls. I’m really independent and don’t depend on a guy."

Marino Katsouris

Marino Katsouris is a 22-year-old personal trainer from Brighton.

And like so many in the villa he's not shy of promoting himself: “I’ve got something about me and I’m a pretty big extrovert so I say what’s on my mind.

“I have the body and the looks at the same time – not that I want to sound too cocky… I’m known as the entertainer in my group and can make people laugh.”

Nathan Joseph

Nathan Joseph is a 25-year-old salesman from Essex.

When asked how to describe himself he said: “I’d say in there now you’ve got Kem who is the funny one, Marcel and Jonny are the nice guys and then you’ve got Chris who is the conventionally good looking one.

“I think I combine all of those elements together – rather than have three different people it’s in one package.”

Steve Ball

Steve Ball is a 25-year-old plumber from Wiltshire.

He says he "used to be a bad boy" when it came to girls: "I’ve been single for nine months now so since then I’ve been on a few dates, bad ones and good ones.

"Nothing serious. My reputation isn’t too bad. I’m not known for being a serial dater, I used to be a bad boy when I was younger but not since I’ve grown up a bit."

Shannen Reilly McGrath

Shannen Reilly McGrath is a 23-year-old dental nurse and model from Dublin.

She made headlines after being spotted out with CJ Meeks on Valentine's Day following his split with Bianca Gascoigne.

The pair shared a kiss as they enjoyed drinks but soon after, Bianca shared and then quickly deleted a screenshot of a Facebook message reportedly sent by Shannen saying it was a set up.

Rob Lipsett

Rob Lipsett is a 25-year-old fitness trainer from Dublin, Ireland.

His brand Lipsett Fitness has grown with over 257,000 Instagram followers and just as many YouTube channel subscribers

Rob is an ambassador of Myprotein and is described as a "social influencer".

An avid rugby player at school, he found that he enjoyed the training more than the sport itself and decided to pursue fitness as a career.

Theo Campbell

Theo Campbell is a 25-year-old athlete from Bath.

He's 6ft 5in and towers over the other male contestants.

The 400m sprinter has got his eye on a trio of ladies and isn't going to let their partners get in his way.

Tyla Carr

Tyla Carr is a model from Surrey.

She promised to “spice things up” in the villa and said she wouldn’t mind if the boy he has her eye on is already coupled up.

The 24-year-old coupled up with Mike, but the pair were booted out of the villa after receiving the fewest public votes.

What happened to past Love Island winners and other couples?

Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey

Essex pair Cara and Nathan were the bookies favourite to take the crown in 2016 after fans fell in love with watching the pair’s antics on the ITV2 hit show.

They won with 54% of the vote and shared the prize money together.

But the show's premise proved to be only partly successful as Cara split from Nathan recently, before she revealed she has fallen pregnant with his baby and intends to raise it alone.

Kady McDermott and Scott Thomas

Kady and Scott, who is the brother of Corrie star Ryan Thomas, have moved in together and are living the high life after coming third place on the show.

Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen

Runners-up Olivia and Alex, who've been holidaying non-stop since the new year, are engaged and plan to marry in 2018.

They have even landed their own reality series to follow their journey down the aisle.

Katie Salmon and Adam Maxted

After coming fourth, Katie and Adam sadly split within two weeks of the show finishing - and Katie is now dating Danielle Whittaker, amid claims she may return to the new series.

Jessica Hayes and Max Morley

These two won the 2015 series of the show, but they split 40 days after leaving the villa.

Jess remains in the news for flashing her boobs and getting kicked off flights, while Max is heading into the new series of Ex On The Beach.

Cally-Jane Beech and Luis Morrison

Cally-Jane and Luis have remained together ever since getting together in the Love Island villa in 2015.

They are now parents to the first Love Island baby - a little girl named Vienna.

She was born on May 7 by emergency caesarean section.
