THE Masked Singer fans are convinced they have worked out that Rat is a Bake Off star.

And they believe it's so obvious, they clocked her 'before she even spoke' in her first scene on air.

The megahit ITV show returned to our screens on Saturday night for a fifth series.

And the mystery rodent is one of several new characters, including Dippy Egg and Cricket, that avid fans of the franchise are trying to guess.

On the first show, Rat performed Boom Boom Boom! by cheesy 90s dance band Vengaboys.

The colourful character sports blue dungarees with paintbrushes in the pockets.

And while Rat is yet to be unmasked - Dionne Warwick was revealed in the first episode as Weather - clued-up viewers reckon she is none other than former Great British Bake Off host Mel Giedroyc.

The 55 year old fronted the series in its early days when it aired on BBC, alongside her pal Sue Perkins.

One of the clues that has left fans convinced it's Mel is that there was a clock in her VT full of hints, which pointed to 3.15pm.

Fans think this could be a reference to a 'late lunch' - the name of the daytime show Mel and Sue presented on Channel 4 in 1998.

One eagle eyed viewer wrote on X, formerly twitter: "I am not too sure about Rat, but I will put down Mel Giedroyc for now. As the 3.15pm on the clock, could be a Late Lunch (her previous show with Sue)."

A second posted: "I got Mel Giedroyc from Rat before she even spoke is that bad?"

A third added: "Rat is Mel Giedroyc I don’t know the rest. Carry on."

A fourth weighed in: "The Rat sounded like Mel Giedroyc when she sang."

"Definitely," agreed a fifth.

Not everyone thinks Rat is Mel, however, as many fans are also convinced it might be 90s pop star Sonia.

Perhaps the biggest clue was the detection of a Liverpudlian accent, while there were references to DIY and cleaning, and heaven.

One exclaimed: "Rat - Sonia Evans… to easy."

Another announced: "It's Sonia! She felt after losing Eurovision she had peaked after coming second."

A third pondered: "Rat is giving me Sonia."

The singer was hugely famous in the UK and Europe thanks to a string of hits throughout the 80s and 90s.

Her full name is Sonia Evans - and she shot to fame in 1989 with No1 hit You'll Never Stop Me Loving You.
