X Factor star reveals infection after horror accident and A&E dash amid fears she might ‘lose her finger’

A TOP X Factor star has revealed she's contracted an infection leaving her "feeling sick" and fearing she will lose her finger after a horror kitchen mishap.
Yesterday we reported how ITV show star Katie Waissel had been rushed to hospital following the gory incident.
The singer, 37, who took part in the seventh series of the ITV competition in 2010, hurt herself while prepping some food.
She has now given fans an update on her pain - which she compared to "a thousand needles stabbing."
Speaking from her home, Katie told how she had a virtual follow-up appointment with a nurse.
Wearing a vest top and going make-up free, she told the camera: I had to - whilst FaceTiming a nurse - cut off a bandage. I feel so sick!
"Because it turns out there is an infection," before pulling a sick face.
Katie continued: "The whole thing is so gross.
"So - trigger warning - it's not fresh blood it's dry but I had to take half of it off and look at that," before holding her half-bandaged finger to the camera.
Showing its red raw appearance she added: "It's the worst pain ever, it's like a thousand needles stabbing and my God if I lose my finger I will take one off the middle position and put it on the middle position again to give a royal F** you to the situation.
"This? Terrible I have got no words no," before the video cut off.
Earlier this week, Katie revealed the kitchen implement that caused her brutal injury.
Sharing a snap of her bandaged up middle finger, Katie wrote: "Mandolin 1 - 0 Katie."
The singer continued: "I swear mandolines, or me using one, should now officially be banned!
"Worst injury ever sustained."
Mandolines are a kitchen utensil that help cut food.
There are multiple blades that can be used, meaning that the food can be grated, sliced, crinkled, with many more features.
Katie placed seventh on The X Factor in 2012.
She competed against the likes of One Direction, Matt Cardle and Rebecca Ferguson.
In 2016 she also took part in Celebrity Big Brother.
Back in 2021 the star opened up about her health after suffering a suspected heart attack.
The former X Factor contestant was rushed to hospital with a “life-threatening emergency."
She then exclusively told The Sun how she was "petrified" her son Hudson would be left without a mum following her health scare.
There are ongoing investigations into what caused the attack, although doctors suspect it could be a side effect of Long Covid.
