What time are the TV Baftas 2020 tonight, who is hosting and how can I watch live?

ALTHOUGH it seemed touch-and-go, the TV Baftas 2020 will be showing TONIGHT (Friday, July 31).

Unfortunately the winners won't be allowed a tearful walk on to the stage to pick up their gong, but we will all have front row seats at the virtual event - here's how to watch.

What time are the Bafta TV Awards?

The Bafta TV 2020 awards are being held on July 31 and will be broadcast on BBC One at 7pm.

A Baftas pre-show will be airing via live stream, starting from 6pm, in place of a red carpet.

After it has aired, the virtual ceremony will be available on BBC iPlayer.

The full list of Bafta 2020 TV nominations was announced on June 4 .

Sky Atlantic’s miniseries Chernobyl received the most, with 14 nominations, including best miniseries, best leading actor for Jared Harris and best supporting actor for Stellan Skarsgard.

Who is hosting the Bafta TV Awards 2020?

TV presenter Richard Ayoade will be taking over from Graham Norton.

Ayoade joked: “I am as surprised as you are that this is still going ahead”.

Bafta Chief Executive Amanda Berry said: “I am thrilled that Richard Ayoade will be hosting the Television Awards for the first time.”

Richard is widely known for Channel 4 series The IT Crowd which first aired in 2006.

Ayoade himself has won a Bafta for The IT Crowd and has also been nominated for a Film Award for Outstanding Debut for his film Submarine, and for Travel Man, which was nominated for Best Feature in the Television Awards in 2017.

How will the virtual TV Baftas work?

The ceremony will take place behind closed doors to comply with government guidelines on Covid-19 safety.

There will be no red carpet or audience.

Ayoade will present prizes from a closed studio and all nominees have recorded winning speeches in advance.
