Historic Spanish town reveals plans to welcome MORE tourists after £80k revamp
A TOWN in Spain is bucking the trend of anti-holidaymaker protests by revealing plans to welcome MORE tourists.
La Villa sits on the Costa del Sol, in the town of Vélez-Málaga, and is the oldest part of the area.
The town recently revealed its €98,594 (£84,569) renovation which was spent on spent on refreshing the area, with new flowerbeds, planters and improvements to the facades of buildings.
And La Villa's town hall now hopes to attract more tourists.
The mayor of the Vélez-Málaga region, Jesús Lupiáñez, and councillor for the historic centre, Juan Fernández, visited the town after the works were completed.
The mayor said that they hoped the improvements will make La Villa "a must visit" destination as part of Vélez-Málaga.

The redevelopment is part of a wider programme improving the local area, which will cost around €659,290 (£565,387) when finished.
La Villa is located in Vélez-Málaga - the capital of Axarquia in Spain and the largest town in the region.
Tourists can also explore a number of other sites and attractions including the Church of Santa Maria la Mauor, the Municipal Palace and the Church of San Juan Bautista.
The town also has a number of museums to explore and an impressive bell tower from the 16th century.

Much of the region has transformed from a hub for fishing and agriculture into a number of sandy holiday resorts including Benajarafe, Almayate, la Caleta de Vélez, Mezquitilla and Lagos.
The town is also a short distance from the seafront, where there is a lighthouse, sandy beaches, and a number of restaurants and cafes.
For those who enjoy hiking, the town is surrounded by open parkland and hills to explore.
The closest airport is Malaga, which is around a 40-minute drive away.
Return flights to the airport from the UK can be found as low as £27 return.
The push for more tourists comes as a number of other destinations across Spain are facing issues of overtourism, leading to protests.
Islands including Ibiza, Majorca and Tenerife have seen protesters take to the streets in recent months to express their discontent over rising tourist numbers.
But there are a number of Spanish destination that are welcoming tourists with open arms.
