Therme Manchester - which already has a waterpark in Bucharest - will feature a top-of-the-range spa too with more than 30 saunas and steam rooms, a few yards from the Trafford Centre.

But its most extraordinary feature will be an indoor seaside resort.

CGI images show a Seychelles-style beach with palm trees and sun loungers underneath a huge glass dome.

There'll also be a "next generation waterpark" with thermal bathing and the world's first "living waterslides", where visitors can whizz past real plants.

Other highlights include a 10,000sqm 'wellbeing garden' as well as fitness classes and adult-only areas.

Building work will begin in 2023, with a grand opening set to take place two years later.

Ticket prices and an official opening date are yet to be revealed.

The vast site will be found within glass domes set moments from a Holiday Inn and a McDonald's.

Those behind the scheme say they want to create "an integrated experience to benefit physical and mental health".

"Our commitment to bring Therme Manchester to the UK is as strong as ever," said Stelian Iacob, senior vice president of Therme Group and CEO of Therme Group UK.

"Expert independent studies have shown the hugely positive economic and social impact that Therme Manchester will have, helping to create jobs, economic prosperity and bringing health and wellbeing to the daily lives of millions of guests.”

Bosses plan to roll out more "urban oasis" sites in Glasgow, London and Wales in the future - and say they want to make a Therme available to 90 per cent of the UK population within a 90-minute travel time.

A second water park is also set to open at the Trafford Centre - the £60m surfing lagoon Modern Surf in Barton Dock Road.
