Cheap winter holidays to Lanzarote, Tenerife and Gran Canaria from £207 as Canaries open to UK holidaymakers

BRITS are being welcomed back to the Canary Islands after they were added to the UK's travel corridor list last week.

This means a winter holiday to Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria is back on the cards for families who want some sun during the colder months.

After months of holiday disruption, when the islands along with mainland Spain were added to the quarantine list back in July, the islands have seen lower numbers of Covid cases leading to their removal from the list.

While Spain became the first Western European country to report one million Covid cases on October 21, the Canaries’ infection ratio has halved since early September to 81 per 100,000 residents.

That compares with a ratio of more than 1,000 cases per 100,000 people in hard-hit Navarra, on the mainland.

Even better, Brits can also avoid the new night-time curfew which was introduced in Spain.

A new state of emergency announced yesterday by Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez - which could last up to six months - does not apply to Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Regional Tourism Secretary Yaiza Castilla said the removal of the Canary Islands quarantine was "magnificent news" and that airlines and tour operators are now scrambling to offer more holidays, with prices expected to rise due to demand.

TUI has relaunched holidays to the Canary Islands, along with Jet2 and easyJet.

Jet2 sold more than 5,500 holidays to the Canaries just hours after the announcement, according to Head of trade Alan Cross, while easyJet added another 180,000 seats after demand soared by 500 per cent.
