Facebook to make HUGE change that could totally alter how you use the app

This new update is likely part of a push to boost user engagement, Bloomberg .

Currently, the feature is being tested by certain Facebook members who will be allowed to create up to four additional profiles.

What's more, users who have access to the beta feature do not need to include their real name or identity for any of the profiles.

The multiple profiles will allow users to engage with different topics or groups of people, according to Facebook spokesperson Leonard Lam.

"Users could have one for friends and another for co-workers, for example, each with its own feed," Bloomberg journalist Kurt Wagner said.

However, Wagner noted that users will only be able to comment or like another post with one profile.

Furthermore, certain Facebook features – like Facebook Dating and the ability to create a page – will only be available via the main profile.

While many people are concerned that this may encourage troll accounts, Facebook said that the additional profiles will still be subject to its Community Standards.

"Keeping safety and accountability in mind, additional profiles are still subject to Facebook's Community Standards, and Facebook takes action on people who violate these policies," the company added.

Decreased engagement

Meta has offered multiple account options in the past – but only to certain people, like public figures.

Now the company is hoping that this feature could increase user posting and sharing.

For the first time ever, Facebook reported a loss of daily users in the final quarter of 2021.

The loss of daily logins totalled around 500,000 and the company also saw a devastating loss of profit in its last earnings report.

Facebook shares plunged around 20 percent, wiping around $200 billion off the company's market cap.

This loss also saw Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg lose around $29 billion from his personal net worth.

As newer research illuminates the negative impacts of social media usage, more people are leaving popular apps like Facebook and Instagram.
