BOING BOING BAGGIES

West Brom 4 Burnley 0: Baggies blitz Burnley in Hawthorns thriller to leave Clarets boss Sean Dyche with plenty to ponder ahead of visit of Manchester City at the weekend

Tony Pulis certainly looks to have blasted the myth of him playing 'long-ball football' with a scintillating performance

WEST Brom turned on the style tonight at the Hawthorns to batter Burnley 4-0 in their Premier League clash.

The game was all but over at half-time, as goals from Matt Phillips, James Morrison and Darren Fletcher put visitors Burnley to the sword.

The second half was pretty much going through the motions for the home side, and Salomon Rondon got the goal his fine forward play deserved in the 64th minute to add gloss to the scoreline.

Facts, stats, goals and lols

  • Burnley’s away form is an increasing headache for Sean Dyche – they have collected just ONE point on the road so far this season.
  • Pulis for manager of the month? That’s two wins out of two in November for the Welshman – and with Hull and Watford still to come a perfect month is not beyond the Baggies.
  • Scotland get one over England… James Morrison and Darren Fletcher both started in the 3-0 defeat at Wembley but at least got one over Three Lions keeper Tom Heaton here…another Scotland international Matt Phillips was also on target.

  • West Brom defender Craig Dawson joined the Premier League’s century club after making his 100th top-flight appearance.
  • Baggies striker Hal Robson-Kanu, a late sub, was earlier named on the 10-man shortlist for the Fifa Puskas award for best goal after his Euro 2016 stunner against Belgium.
  • It was the second match in a row that Matt Phillips and James Morrison had been on target for Albion after both also scored in the recent 2-1 win at Leicester.
  • Phillips’ goal made it THREE goals conceded for Tom Heaton in his 11 minutes of football after he conceded in the 89th minute and sixth minute of added time in England’s 2-2 draw with Spain.

  • Even in a game where Albion where it was all about the Baggies’ attack, defender Jonny Evans still stood out as a class act – making one stunning last-ditch interception in the second half.
  • Tony Pulis and Baggies fans haven’t always seen eye to eye but the boss was the toast of The Hawthorns during this dominant display with fans regularly chanting his name.
  • Salomon Rondon bagged his fourth Premier League goal of the season and the Venezuela international now looks increasingly at home in the Premier League. His physicality was too much for Burnley.

What they said

West Brom striker Salomon Rondon: "We were perfect tonight. We played very well. 4-0 is very important at home and to get the points.

"I am very happy I need to score goals. Tonight is special."

Burnley boss Sean Dyche: "It was not good enough - the first half particularly. The game was done at half-time.

"We just got drunk on keeping the ball and playing in front of them and that is what they want you to do so they can counter attack. We got sucked into it - even though we had told the players what to expect.
