WES MORGAN has celebrated making his 700th club career appearance on Saturday by signing a new one-year extension to his Leicester contract.

The Foxes captain, 35, showed his worth by heading home ten-man Leicester’s added time winner at Burnley, after coming on following Harry Maguire’s early red card.

Now, the Leicester legend who lifted the 2016 Premier League trophy, is set to stay until June 2020 at least after impressing new manager Brendan Rodgers with his dedication and devotion to the Foxes.

Morgan joined Leicester from Nottingham Forest in January 2012 and has been a cornerstone of the club’s success ever since, scoring 13 goals in 293 appearances for the club.

This season he looked on his way out under Claude Puel.

However, Brendan Rodgers played him in his first game in charge at Brighton and Saturday was Morgan’s 22nd appearance of the season.

Morgan said: “It means a lot to me. We’ve been through so many ups and downs together as a football club.

"I’ve been right at the heart of it from the very beginning, so to extend my time here means very much to me and I’m very happy.

“I can see a very, very bright future for Leicester City.

"We’ve got a lot of young players who have so much potential and even the current players we’ve got, we’ve got so much experience, we’ve been through it all and we can help the younger players to achieve their full potential.

“It’s all about not being individuals, it’s all about everyone collectively chipping in, doing their part, to help the greater cause, which is making Leicester City successful.”
