The argument between Simpson and Carragher started after the Liverpool legend was pictured in an Everton kit.

Sky Sports pundit Carragher was filming a segment for a programme with Toffees striker Romelu Lukaku at their training ground.

Simpson then tweeted Gary Neville about the pictures saying: "Just gonna put it out there. No offence but I don't think I would ever see @GNev2 in a Man City training shirt."

Neville replied with a dig at Carragher's old team and their 3-1 loss to Simpson's Leicester team on Monday.

He said: "You put it out there Daniel! Good win Monday… he was very hurt in the studio."

Simpson replied: "I could tell. I'm sorry but regardless of being a pundit you are Man United through and through and you would never do that."

Carragher then got involved and brought up the fact the Foxes performed better after their Premier League-winning manager Claudio Ranieiri was sacked.

He tweeted: "More offensive than you lot running around on Monday?!!!"

Simpson then hit back at Carragher saying: "come on Jamie it's your job to check them stats. Aren't we all just average players who won the best league in the world".

Carragher was quick to hit back asking Simpson if he played any part in Ranieri's sacking.

He said: "Get out of his a**e! If we're getting things off our chest did you go & see the owner in Seville?"

Simpson did not deny or confirm the rumours but instead started ribbing Carragher over the fact he had won the Prem.

The defender said: "I respect your opinion, and as a defender I look up to you and what you've achieved. However i won the league you haven't"

Carragher replied: "Thought you had more? You part of those joke players at Man U who claimed titles after 5 games a season?!! Quiet on Seville Daniel."

Simpson then thought he had the last word as he tweeted a picture of himself and former Manchester United star Danny Drinkwater with the trophy.

He wrote: "yea, joke man united players holding this beauty."

Fans then started to get involved and began berating Simpson for his 2015 conviction for strangling his ex Stephanie Ward at their home.
