Hal Robson-Kanu was NOT one of the five big signings I wanted, claims angry West Brom boss Tony Pulis

Baggies chief casts doubt on his future by denying chairman John Williams' claim that the Welsh striker was a top target

ANGRY West Brom boss Tony Pulis last night claimed Wales star Hal Robson-Kanu was not his signing.

Pulis cast doubt on his own future by claiming chairman John Williams  failed to deliver his five ‘marquee’ targets.

Wales striker Robson-Kanu, 27, was a free agent all summer following his release by  Reading — but signed  just hours before the transfer window closed.

And Pulis said: “He wasn’t one of my main targets. He was available at the end and we thought he would be a good acquisition — but to say he was one of the marquee signings would be wrong.

“We’d have signed him at the beginning of the transfer  window if he was.”

Williams turned up the heat on Pulis by claiming the Baggies had met the manager’s demands.

But Pulis rapped: “The five players  John has said I was happy with weren’t the marquee players I wanted to bring in.

“There are all sorts of different reasons why those players weren’t brought in, but to try to say they were the five I wanted . . . that’s wrong.”

Williams pointed the finger at Pulis for the failure to sign a midfielder after he pulled out of a deal for Malaga’s Ignacio Camacho.

That led to claims he could quit.

But Pulis, who takes his side to Bournemouth today, insists he never considered walking away — although his contract is due to expire next summer.

He is planning talks with new Chinese owner Guochuan Lai once his £200million takeover is completed.

Pulis, 58, added: “It’s important the  new owners decide which way they want the football club to go. It’s no good me talking about my future. I don’t determine my future, other people do.”
