FREDDIE ROACH insists the ‘real’ Manny Pacquiao would be on show in a rematch with Floyd Mayweather.
Mayweather outpointed Pacquiao in May 2015, with the fight selling a record 4.6 million pay-per-views, as the world finally got to see the bout that was five years in the making.
Pacquiao was comfortably outpointed as Mayweather’s precise counter punching nullified his opponents speed and footwork.
However, after the fight Pacquiao claimed he had torn his rotator cuff, meaning his ability to throw combinations, something he was renowned for, was greatly affected.
Speaking to Hoy Deportes, Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer since 2001, claimed if his pupil was to rematch Mayweather, the world would see a different fighter.
While the Wildcard Boxing Club owner hopes the winner between Pacquiao and Broner, who fight on January 19, will go on to face Mayweather.
Roach said: "Mayweather has spoken badly about him. I think the winner of this fight can get the fight against Mayweather.
“I hope it happens, I would like to see that, I was very disappointed in the first fight against Mayweather.
"In that fight, Manny told me he could not move his arm in the fourth round.
“I told him not to hurt himself, to go with the flow, I would have liked for him to be operated on before the fight, so he wouldn't get injured during the fight, but it happened.
“Now his shoulder seems to look good now. Hopefully we'll fight that guy once more and see the real Manny Pacquiao."
Pacquiao is now four fights and three and a half years removed from that loss to Mayweather.
In the Filipino's last fight, he scored his first knockout win in nine years as he stopped Lucas Matthysse to claim the WBA ‘regular’ welterweight world title.
As ‘Pacman’ prepares to defend his WBA strap for the first time, Roach claimed he will only consider telling Pacquiao to retire once he noticed a drop in work ethic.
Roach added: "I've been dealing with Manny Pacquiao for a long time. When his work ethic comes down, I'm going to tell him to retire, but that moment has not come.
"His discipline is incredible, he has always been very busy, he has always wanted to do more, in basketball, in the ring, it doesn't matter.
"In two weeks I will tell him no more basketball, I will tell him that he doesn't do basketball anymore."
