  • Higgins earlier start

When told he'd be back tonight, John Higgins must've been fearing coming on at 11pm tonight.

Instead, he's got 10 minutes of warming up to do and he's on!

He leads Xiao Guodong 12-11 and they come back for this first to 13 clash to play to a finish!

  • Luca Brecel 7-1 Ding Junhui

THE GREATEST SESSION OF SNOOKER AT THESE CHAMPIONSHIPS!?

Honestly, wow. Wow, wow, wow. More important and influential snooker people will wax lyrical about this performance so no need to take my word for it.

But honestly I don't think there has been a better session of snooker in these championships, maybe ever!??

Peak sporting performance. Poor Ding too, he didn't get a sniff!

  • Luca Brecel 6-1 Ding Junhui (1-0)

Ding takes on a long red from the Brecel break and he misses it by some way.

This the man that hit a 141 break less than two hours ago.

He must be in total shock at what he's seeing. But it allows Brecel back to the table once more.

It goes without saying, Ding could do with winning this frame....

  • Luca Brecel 6-1 Ding Junhui

He's slacking now, Brecel. Just the 88 in that break there....

I'm not sure if he's getting the rub of the green at times but everything he's hitting is coming off.

Genuinely, I think he's just performing at an abnormal level.

And the things he is taking on are just outrageous too. He'll be gutted that the action has to finish after the next frame!

  • Luca Brecel 5-1 Ding Junhui (8-8)

"This is as jaw-dropping a session as I've ever seen".

The words of Steve Davis on co-commentary after Brecel levels up the frame with a THREE-BALL plant, playing the cue ball from the baulk area.

Stunning shot and this crowd are properly loving it. This has been real magic stuff.

  • Luca Brecel 5-1 Ding Junhui

He's absolutely running away with this after another frame-winning visit.

The double that kicked it all off was sublime and the break was something else again.

  • Si Jiahui 2-2 Ben Woollaston

Another 24 points from Woollaston in his latest visit and that's too much for Si Jiahui.

He thinks about coming back for a moment before nodding to concede.

The players head off for the mid-session break and Woollaston will be feeling so, so much better about things now having leveled it up!

  • Luca Brecel 4-1 Ding Junhui (25-0)

The frame has been slower that the previous five - until NOW!

Ding with the error missing the long red. He gets a bit unlucky as the cue ball is stopped from getting back down the table and sits centrally.

Nothing really on for Brecel, until he opts to DOUBLE again off the right cushion and into the left centre pocket, falling perfectly on the black. Ridiculous.

  • Si Jiahui 2-1 Ben Woollaston (0-50)

A good break of 46 for Woollaston, ending by putting one of the reds Si would need safe.

The cue ball is up to baulk now and it looks like Woollaston has properly settled in now ahead of this mid-session stoppage.

  • Si Jiahui 2-1 Ben Woollaston (0-25)

Another sniff for Woollaston as he pots a couple of reds to edge ahead in the frame.

Then he fires in the black to canon into the remaining pack and it's just opened up a few more loose reds for him.

  • Luca Brecel 4-1 Ding Junhui

It's as if he's left his private jet on the double yellow signs outside.

He's making this ridiculously difficult sport look so unbelievably easy.

Another break of 100 for the Belgian and he's racing to a good overnight lead as things stands. Incredible stuff.

  • Si Jiahui 2-1 Ben Woollaston

Woollaston was presented with an opportunity and he has taken it.

That 30 break was too much for Si Jiahui to come back for and that will hopefully help the Leicester man settle a little into this.

One more frame until the mid-session break.

  • Luca Brecel 3-1 Ding Junhui (0-3)

Uh oh! Ding has a bit of a stretch for his second red of the frame and using the rest he doesn't find the target!

Audible gasps from the punters in here before one or two shout for Brecel.

  • Luca Brecel 3-1 Ding Junhui (0-1)

This match has just resumed after the mid-session interval and Ding - who didn't pot a single ball in frames 2-4 - finds a superb long red into the right corner pocket.

So tough that shot, especially having been frozen out so long.

  • Si Jiahui 2-0 Ben Woollaston (1-45)

Woollaston's lead in the frame has increased, up to 44 the advantage now.

Still 75 to play for though and Si has found a great snooker behind the blue on the left cushion. Woollaston just gets out it and it's still advantage him in the frame.

  • Si Jiahui 2-0 Ben Woollaston (1-24)

That Si aggressiveness going against him there as he inadvertently knocks the black in when hitting up to the reds.

He has no interest in getting into a safety battle.

  • Si Jiahui 2-0 Ben Woollaston (1-17)

Little opportunity for Woollaston there as he reached 17 in this turn.

Again, it's maybe a touch negative playing the yellow to look for the safety.

While Si is going for any opportunity he can get.

  • Luc at him go

In fact, he sat and watched Ding Junhui put in a spellbinding 141 break in the opening frame.

But Ding's total in the three frames since? ZERO!

That's the dominance from Brecel in the 45 minutes that followed that superb Ding opener. Breathtaking stuff.

  • Luca Brecel 3-1 Ding Junhui

78 points ahead in the frame and Ding concedes as they head in for the mid-session interval.

And when I tell you it's a Luca Brecel exhibition, it's a Luca Brecel exhbition.

Thin cuts, two doubles that have gone in, spinning round the table. Just incredible snookering from the Belgian and he'd looked absolutely terrific these last three frames.

  • Si Jiahui 2-0 Ben Woollaston

Si Jiahui gets the yellow and green and that puts the frame to bed.

Woollaston remains in his seat and has a two-frame deficit to try and claw back in these early stages.

  • Si Jiahui 1-0 Ben Woollaston (58-28)

There's one snooker for Woollaston but he still needs one more as they remain on the yellow for now.

  • Luca Brecel 2-1 Ding Junhui (55-0)

Really good again from Luca Brecel and he's really disappointed to have to give the table up having found the cue ball inside the bunch.

His safety shot to behind the yellow is exquisite. It's been some 45 minutes or so from him.

Still 83 points on the table though.

  • Si Jiahui 1-0 Ben Woollaston (58-24)

A sniff of a chance for Si Jiahui and he takes it emphatically!

Another pure strike on a long red, into the green pocket and that leaves Woollaston needing snookers.

Si can't leave himself on the yellow so looks for the snooker up the table.

  • Si Jiahui 1-0 Ben Woollaston (51-24)

The complexion of this frame has changed and it's Si in front and raced ahead into a lead.

The last red is stuck to the top rail though and he won't be able to get on it. So a crucial moment here to see who can, firstly, get it free and then pot it!

  • Luca Brecel 2-1 Ding Junhui

    No century? They're slacking!

A terrific break of 78 from Luca Brecel, again in breakneck speed round the table, with an array of top shots.

Sitting having to watch your opponent pocket a 141 break in the opener, why isn't it bothering him!?

If it has, he's not shown it. Two stellar frames on the bounce to edge ahead.
