Wigan’s Cade Cust ready to beat the man he got to autograph money

BRETT Hodgson will once again come face to face with the child fan who once got him to sign money.

That fan has grown into Wigan star Cade Cust.

The Aussie half back ace supported NRL side Wests Tigers and as a 10-year-old, he met his hero – then full back Hodgson.

He wanted a memento of his encounter. So the man who is now Hull FC boss ended up putting his signature on cash!

“I was 10-years-old in 2008 and I met Brett at the airport before he came to England,” Cust recalled.

“I actually got him to sign a one dollar American note. I don’t know if he remembers this but I was a massive Tigers supporter.

“I was going to America with my nan and granddad, taking all my cousins over too, and I saw him at the airport and got him to sign the dollar.

“That’s something I’ll definitely bring up if I get to have a chat with him. He won’t remember that incident but it was just before he came over to England.

“And being a massive Tigers supporter, I definitely remember it! I remember watching that 2005 Grand Final against North Queensland Cowboys.

“I think half of my hometown, Scone, came out to watch it.”

As well as 23-year-old Cust indulging in a bit of hero worship, tonight’s clash will be a reunion of friends.

And Wigan’s Patrick Mago definitely wants to get the better of Hull’s Andre Savelio and Joe Lovodua, former team-mates at Brisbane Broncos and South Sydney respectively.

Otherwise he will not hear the end of it after revealing his role in the moment the former’s NRL hopes were dashed by a serious knee injury.

The prop said: “I still joke with Andre about it to this day. I was about to take a carry and he pushed me out of the way, saying he hadn’t done anything yet.

“He took it and did his ACL. I say to him, ‘You should’ve let me take that carry.’ I was gutted for him at the time.

"I love Andre, he’s a good bloke but when I trained with him, he liked to show off his skills and he’s got the biggest head!”
