'POLITICALLY MOTIVATED'

Plumbing tycoon Charlie Mullins slams threats to strip him of OBE after his controversial comments about Sadiq Khan

Mullins claims he's being 'victimised' because he left the UK for Spain

PLUMBING tycoon Charlie Mullins says threats to remove his OBE are “politically motivated”.

The multi-millionaire Pimlico Plumbers founder was heavily criticised by the Honours Forfeiture Committee last year over controversial comments aimed at Sadiq Khan.

Mr Mullins, 72, had to apologise after saying “someone should kill” the London Mayor over the controversial Ulez road charge scheme.

His lawyers later said he would take diversity training.

Last week, he was told no action would be taken but “future behaviour” might provoke further investigations and his OBE could be rescinded.

Mr Mullins, who now lives primarily in Marbella, told The Daily Telegraph: “It’s definitely politically motivated.

"I’m being victimised because I left the UK and I’m not playing the game with them any more.”

A Government spokesperson said: "Claims that the Forfeiture Committee is politically motivated are completely unfounded and inaccurate.

"The Forfeiture Committee is entirely apolitical and no ministers or political appointees are involved in any of its decision making."
