Coastal walkers warned against taking ‘storm selfies’ with 60mph gusts on the way

Severe weather has seen thrill-seekers taking pictures of themselves in dangerous conditions

COASTAL walkers are being urged to avoid taking “storm selfies” this weekend with 60mph winds on the way.

Gusts are expected in the South and West.

People on coastal paths and promenades face highest risks, said the Environment Agency.

Severe weather has seen thrill-seekers taking pictures of themselves in dangerous conditions.

Videos of people being swept away by waves have gone viral online.

Craig Woolhouse, of the Environment Agency, said: “We urge people to stay safe on the coast and warn wave-watchers against the unnecessary dangers of storm selfies.”

Campers were also warned as the Met Office forecast “heavy, thundery, showery rain”.

Temperatures are set to drop from a high of 28C (82F) earlier this week to the low 20s (68F) in many parts.

Warmer weather should return next week.
