BUTLIN'S SCARE

Butlin’s holidaymakers watch in horror as woman suffers heart attack in swimming pool

HOLIDAYMAKERS watched in horror as lifeguards and paramedics raced to save a woman after she suffered a heart attack in the swimming pool at Butlin’s.

The woman is thought to have been with a young child when she fell ill at the holiday camp in Skegness, Lincs.

Lifeguards rushed to her aid and began trying to revive her as shocked onlookers were asked to clear the pool.

A holidaymaker said: “A man who was nearby suddenly saw the woman floating in the water. Everything went really quickly after that. The lifeguards got her out of the water straight away and they evacuated the pool.

“We were asked to leave the area. The lady was lying on the side of the pool and was unconscious. I don’t think the lifeguards could have done any more. They were very quick.

“Everyone had to leave the pool at the same time and it was all a bit of a rush. I helped someone get their disabled child out. It happened in a family pool and people only go in there with kids.

"As we were getting changed a couple of paramedics came charging through asking everyone to stand back. It has been really busy with Butlin’s with it being half term and the pool has been constantly packed out. It was very distressing to see it all. We just hope she is okay.”

The woman was taken by air ambulance to hospital where doctors administered emergency treatment on Saturday evening.

Her condition is not known.

A spokesman for Butlin’s Skegness said: “A guest staying with us fell ill within our swimming complex.

“The guest was quickly attended to by lifeguards before being transferred to hospital. Our team are in contact with the guest’s family to offer our full support.”
