A CRACK SAS unit has been placed in isolation — so its troops can respond to coronavirus emergencies or terror attacks.

Operation Rescript kicks into action on Monday, led by Lt Gen Tyrone Urch.

He will co-ordinate the response of the Army, Navy and RAF.

The services will this week begin “tactical loading” — where half work from home in self-isolation to stop any spread of the virus.

Troops are on standby to ensure essentials reach shops and to support emergency services.

At Army HQ in Andover, medical regiments and hygiene units have been told they would be deployed within six weeks to provide care.

They have also been warned they could face the grim task of dealing with bodies of Coronavirus victims and cleaning contaminated areas.

Hundreds of Royal Marines were stranded under travel blocks in Norway where they have been on a war-games exercise.

A military source said: “High command are taking no chances, and want to restrict travel as much as possible – and keeping the marines in Norway is part of that.

The MoD said it does not comment on special forces.
