Major motorway used by 75,000 drivers per day is SHUT as car bursts into flames bringing ‘all traffic’ to a halt

A MAJOR motorway used by 75,000 drivers per day has been shut after a car burst into flames bringing "all traffic" to a halt.
Diversions have been put in place by National Highways as drivers are warned to plan ahead.
Traffic has been stopped on the westbound carriageway between Junction 3 for Chatham (Kent) and Junction 2 for the A228 Sundridge Hill (Rochester).
Long queues have been forming since 8:30am, when a car is said to have caught fire on the M2.
The congestion is expected to clear at around 10am.
Control operator, Inrix, said: "All traffic is being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to car fire on M2 westbound from J3 (Chatham/Rochester) to J2 A228 Sundridge Hill (Strood/Rochester).

It is not yet known if any injuries have been reported.
This comes just days after National Highways announced the M25 would be hit by a strings of closures
The operator said: "The Wisley Interchange junction 10, including all entry and exit slip roads, will be closed in its entirety from 9pm on Friday 16 May to 6am Monday 19 May 2025.
"While the A3 and M25 will both remain open, the slip roads off and on the junction won't be, meaning you won't be able to leave or join the M25 or the A3 AT junction 10."
