LOCALS have described their home being like a toilet, as human waste is dumped by holidaymakers.

The chemical toilets are being emptied in an area of outstanding natural beauty and a haven for wildlife used by motorhomes and campervans in Norfolk.

The smell is known as the 'Salthouse stink' as the toilets are emptied on to a grass verge along the road which runs through marshes from Salthouse village to the beach.

Villagers living nearby are now demanding the council go further than its plan to ban motorhomes and camper vans from the beach road.

Locals want the ban to also cover caravans, which also have chemical toilets and have bee staying on the 450m Beach Road.

Carey Clark, from Salthouse Parish Council, told the : "The parish council would not wish to see caravans on Beach Road either. However, this hasn’t been such an issue as camper vans or motor homes.

"There was one instance last year where there was a caravan on the road for some weeks, and we wouldn’t want to see that repeated this summer."

The are a 160-acre nature reserve that is a grazing marsh and has small pools.

Birds such as snow buntings, little egrets, and barn owls can be found there.

One local said: "It takes a special kind of moron to think dumping chemical waste into a beauty spot waterway is a good idea, self entitled."

Another said: "Sadly the filthy and entitled habits of some motorhome users tar all of us with the same brush.

"I’ve witnessed plenty of it during my travels with my own motorhome, especially around Scotland, where the NC500 has become particularly notorious for clandestine - and sometimes even blatant - waste-dumping. There’s absolutely no excuse."

A third said: "It’s making it harder for decent people with motorhomes and vans to find free overnight parking it makes me feel sick. What is wrong with people."

The ban proposed by the council would stop motor homes parking on the road between 6.30pm and 8.30pm any day of the week.

A spokesperson for Norfolk County Council said: “Over the past year the number of motorhomes parking overnight along Beach Road has grown considerably, with the volume of vehicles and their impact now creating dangers for road users.

"After concerns were raised by Salthouse Parish Council, we’ve spoken with our partners at the Parish and District Councils as well as Norfolk Police and are proposing this TRO as a way of addressing the issue.

“The goal of this Order is to improve safety along Beach Road and we would welcome the comments from any road users who are familiar with the area and could share their views of how a new restriction on overnight waiting of motor caravans could impact safety for all road users.”

Stoke-on-Trent has ranked number one on the Top 10 "Smelliest Towns."

Last year the council saw 860 disgusted residents complain about the pungent air.

But the people of Stoke are not alone, as Birmingham came in second with 649.

However, WestminsterLeeds and Swindon are not far behind, also making the list.
