I’m a psychologist – here’s what the colour of your car says about you… and the hue that shows you’re a perfectionist

A TOP psychologist has revealed what the colour of the car you drive says about you – and the hue that indicates you’re a perfectionist.
Many drivers will no doubt simply think the colour just makes their car look nice but it can reveal a lot about the motorist.
Jo Hemmings, a leading behavioural and media psychologist, told The Sun Online what particular colour of a person’s car says about the driver’s personality and character.
Silvery-grey cars
The UK’s most popular colour for our wheels is a silvery-grey hue and according to Jo, indicates they are driven by people who like to “blend in with the crowd".
She said: “It’s a safe, neutral colour – car colours reflect trends of the time, think of all those shades of grey we use in our homes now, cars tend to reflect that.
“Even though such a common colour, there is a quiet prestige about a silvery-grey colour and people who buy them like to blend in with the crowd.

“They also hold their value better, being so neutral and impersonal.”
Here’s what Jo revealed about the other colours and what they say about people’s personality types.
Black cars
“The second most popular colour car after the silvery-grey, drivers who prefer black cars tend to be sophisticated and want to look cool in an understated way.
“They like being in control and are often perfectionists.

“It’s an aspirational colour with an air of mystery about it – we are more likely to wonder if there is someone important inside a black car, than any other colour.”
White cars
“The third most popular car colour, is chosen by those that like their life streamlined and uncluttered.
“They tend to be calm people, who have a clear sense of what they want out of life.
“Highly organised, you can be sure that they have a tidy car (and home).”
Blue cars
“Fourth in popularity, drivers who prefer blue cars tend to be confident and positive about life.
“They are usually very trustworthy people, with logical mindsets that probably wouldn’t consider choosing an alternative colour than smart and simple blue.”
Red cars
“Red cars are fifth in the UK popularity list. These drivers like to be the centre of attention and live life to the full.
“Even the colour red tricks our brains into thinking that a car is going faster than it actually is.
“Associated with men having a mid-life crisis (especially if a sporty brand) increasing numbers of confident, spontaneous women are buying red cars too.”
Green cars
“Simultaneously grand and stately, while also channelling British Racing Green, so zippy too, green car owners tend to be well-balanced and know what they want out of life.
“It’s both a traditional colour and one from nature, so those who own green cars are likely to have a healthy eco-awareness too.”
Orange cars
“Orange is a playful colour and orange car owners are likely to be lively and outgoing, with a real sense of fun.
“Not as racy as red or as garish as pink, orange tones suit those drivers who want to stand out from the crowd without being judged.”
Yellow cars
“One of the least popular colours these days, yellow car owners are energetic with, unsurprisingly, sunny personalities.
“They are optimistic, positive and invariably cheerful.
“They will always stand by their colour choice, even if it is falling out of favour for more traditional colours, like silver, grey and black.”
Pink cars
Eye-catching pink cars maybe a rarity on our roads these days with former model Katie Price being an obvious exception.
While the colour is certainly flashy it does give an insight into Katie’s personality.
Jo said: “Katie likes to be different and stand out from the crowd.

“She has pink woven through her life, so having a huge bright pink, customised car is an obvious choice for her.
“Pink car owners also tend to be nurturing and compassionate – flashy as it maybe it’s good to know she’s got a kind heart too.”
