DJ Marvin Humes talks about personal trainer workouts and family dinner times as he prepares for Children in Need

MY 18-month-old daughter Valentina is my alarm clock.

At 6.30am I’ll wake to the sound of her calling for me or Rochelle [Marvin’s wife, 29, presenter and former The Saturdays singer].

She’s only in the room next door and likes to make herself known! My older daughter Alaia-Mai, five, wakes up shortly after, so we all head downstairs to have breakfast together.

We love tucking into a full English on Sundays – usually with Peppa Pig on TV in the background.

I train four times a week with a personal trainer. It’s important for me to work out because it keeps my energy levels up.

Plus, there’s a lot of competition with the other dads on sports day, so I have to make sure I’m in good shape! I like to go at around 10am, just after the school run, so it’s over and done with.

Afterwards I’ll be starving, so I’ll meet Roch for a lunch date somewhere local to where we live in Essex.

I work most evenings on my radio show, so we try to go for a midday meal to have a catch-up and spend some quality time together.

We also make an effort to have a date night once a week.

The afternoons are for working on my music. My days are pretty free because my DJ show runs from 10pm till 1 am, but I don’t like sitting around doing nothing.

We have a room in the house with decks and speakers, so that’s my space to work on new tracks. I can lose hours in there!

I’ll also spend a couple of hours doing boring stuff like checking emails.

Dinnertime is family time. At 5pm we turn off all our phones, iPads and TVs and focus on having a nice meal together, just the four of us. Rochelle is usually the chef and will cook us a hearty meal like lamb chops, mash and gravy.

Afterwards we’ll do bath time with the kids, which is one of my favourite parts of the day. Alaia has started reading to me just before she goes to sleep, which is really sweet.

In the evenings Roch and I usually have an hour to ourselves, which we use to watch a box set on the sofa. Then at 9pm I’ll head to work, where I’ll have another dinner before going on air. The burrito from the canteen is my favourite!

I love my job. On Sundays I host the chart show, which is great fun. After having five No.1s with JLS, it’s so cool that I get to tell other artists they’ve hit the top spot. I also really enjoy introducing listeners to new music.

Most nights I finish at 1am and drive straight home from the studio in London, but on Saturdays I tend to go out to a club for a DJ appearance.

If that’s the case then I won’t get back until 4am. When I eventually do get home I have to be a ninja assassin to avoid making any noise before crashing out.
