From a cold shower to exercise… 6 ways to sober up fast after boozing
It's all about waking your body up and providing it with the right fuel to get on with your day without feeling too groggy

WE'VE all been there.
You have a boozy night and wake up the next day realising you're still a bit tipsy and need to sober up fast.
Or maybe you've had a bit too much fun at lunch and you realise you need to sort yourself out for the rest of the day.
You've probably tried all the tips under the sun to make sure you don't wake up feeling drunk.
You ate loads of carbs and downed several pints of water before bed, but nothing has helped.
But is there actually something you can do to sober up? The short answer is no, you have to wait for your body to process the alcohol, but you can do a few things to appear sober.
1. Take a cold shower
This won't do anything to lower your blood alcohol levels.
But it can make you feel more alert, which will help you get back to a more functional level.
Cold showers are thought to help the body's nervous system bounce back into action, but the effects usually only last around half an hour.
The cold can be a shock to the system though, so maybe don't make it as cold as possible, stick with it being cold enough to wake you up.
2. Exercise
This is probably the last thing you want to do to sober up.
But exercising can help wake the body up and make you feel alert.
It also stimulates the production of chemicals called endorphins, which can help wake the brain up and boost your energy levels.
They can also help combat stress and anxiety, something you may be feeling if you know you need to sober up.
3. Coffee
You've definitely heard of this one before.
Drinking coffee won't do anything to control your blood alcohol levels, but the caffeine will make you feel more alert.
That feeling of alertness will help you get through the next few hours while you sober up completely.
Be sure to drink plenty of water along side it though.
Alcohol can leave you dehydrated and coffee won't do anything to fix that.
You should also remember that for every alcoholic drink you drink you should also have a glass of water.
4. Juice
Here's one that will help your liver flush out toxins.
Drinking juices, or eating fruit and vegetables, that contain fructose and vitamins B and C can help your liver process all the alcohol you've drunk.
This won't affect how sober you appear, but it may help the alcohol leave your system sooner.
5. Eat right
You may want to snack on greasy food but that's not the best option for your body.
While a healthy breakfast doesn't seem like the most appealing, it will give your body the right amount of nutrients to help fight off the toxins from the alcohol and get back to functioning normally.
Try something like eggs on toast or a bowl of Greek yoghurt and oats.
And you should also put a plan in place before you start drinking - never skip dinner.
Eating dinner may not make you appear sober the next day but it will help top you getting too drunk to start with.

6. Sleep
Getting enough sleep is the best way for a person to sober up.
It allows your body to rest and recover, something that is desperately needed after a boozy night.
If you can't sleep for hours then try taking a quick nap.
Any amount of time you can give your body to power down and start recovering is better than nothing.
