A HOMEOWNER has revealed a 50p hack to rid pests from your garden, using a bathroom essential.
With temperatures remaining high and blue skies looking like they're here to stay, many of us are spending as much time as we can in the garden.
But there's nothing worse than settling down in your favourite deck chair with a cup of tea and a good book, only to spot a pesky rat peering out from behind the bushes.
Not only are the critters dirty and unsightly, but they can also wreak havoc on your home and garden, and can even carry harmful diseases.
Although your first thought might be to put down poison or use traps, there are a number of natural methods you can try instead, which are cheaper.
Additionally, rat poison is toxic to pets and this method doesn't eliminate the problem, as more rats will continue to flock to your garden.

Taking to TikTok, revealed that you can banish rats from your home and garden, by using a bar of soap.
Soap is something you probably already have in the bathroom, but if not, you can pick up a bar from Savers for 50p.
The homeowner revealed that all you need to do is grate a small bit of the soap and then add a splodge of toothpaste to the mixture.
Sprinkle two spoonfuls of refined sugar into the mix, and then combine all of the ingredients together.

Finally, add a bit of stale bread to the concoction and mix it in again, before distributing the mixture around your garden.
"This is a powerful homemade poison for rats," the TikToker explained.
"The bread and sugar will attract the animals, but when they consume it, the other ingredients will be lethal to them."
The homeowner advised placing the mixture in strategic places, such as near drains, and you can sprinkle it over your lawn as well.
The video has caused a stir on social media, racking up over 15 million views.
TikTok users raced to the video's comments section, to share their thoughts on the budget hack.

Moths - acidic household white vinegar is effective for deterring moths. Soak some kitchen roll in vinegar and leave it in your wardrobe as a deterrent.
Flying ants - herbs and spices, such as cinnamon, mint, chilli pepper, black pepper, cayenne pepper, cloves, or garlic act as deterrents.
