SO ALONE

I came out as gay five years ago and still can’t find a partner

DEAR DEIDRE: I THOUGHT it would be easy enough to find a partner having been in the closet most of my life.

But five years after coming out, I’m still on my own.

No issue is too small, too large or too embarrassing. Read our personal replies here.

I didn’t realise how difficult it would be. There is nowhere to meet people in my area.

Online dating sites charge a lot of money, which I can’t afford. I am a 58-year-old guy.

I’m so lonely, though I love the real me now. All my friends and family love me for who I am.

I just wish someone could see how much I have to give. I have so much love in my heart for that special person, but he is eluding me.

Everyone says: “Don’t go looking and you will find love one day.” But I am beginning to think that day will never come.

DEIDRE SAYS: Lots of people, regardless of their sexuality, find it difficult to meet partners.

Instead of focusing only on dating, try joining some local clubs and societies and get involved in voluntary work where you get to make friends first rather than just hunting for a partner.

Some of them are bound to be gay.

My support pack Gay Resources will help you too.
