Angela Bassett is set to play mother of T’Challa in Marvel’s Blank Panther

WE'RE really struggling to contain our excitement over this one.

The latest casting for Marvel's upcoming Black Panther is supposedly Academy Award-nominee, Angela Bassett.

The actress is reported to have been cast as the mother to the title character, T'Challa, set to be played by Chadwick Boseman.

Boseman will be returning to the silver screen as Black Panther, this time playing the title role, following the introduction of the character in Captain America: Civil War.

The casting appears to stray from the original comic storyline where T'Challa's mother dies during childbirth.

It may be that Bassett's role will mirror the character of, Ramonda, Tchalla's second-mother figure.

Captain America: Civil War introduced MCU fans to the character of T'Challa, played by Boseman, earlier this year.

The film had an impressive cast with Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Elizabeth Olsen, to name just a few.

Despite an impressive amount of screen time for T'Challa in the film, Kevin Fiege, the president of Marvel Studios, has stated that Blank Panther will show the "99% of his world that you never saw," when speaking to last month.

Besides her portrayal of Tina Turner, Angela Bassett is also well known for her recurring roles in TV series American Horror Story.

The film will not be the first time she has been involved in the comic world, however, following her role in DC Entertainment's 2011 adaptation of Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds.

Black Panther is set for a 2018 release date and is already set to star the likes of Forest Whitaker, Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong'o.

We know one thing for sure, with this cast and the build-up already surrounding the film in the MCU, Black Panther has all of the ingredients to be one of Marvel's best yet.
