Arsenal loanee Reiss Nelson reveals he wants to play with Germany-based England pal Jadon Sancho one day after starring for Hoffenheim

The young Gunner is proving a hit at the Bundesliga club – just like his mate and fellow England U19 star Sancho who plays for Borussia Dortmund

REISS NELSON is doing his very best to prove that anything Jadon Sancho can do in the Bundesliga, he can match it – and has revealed that he’d love to play alongside his friend again soon.

Arsenal teenager Nelson joined German club Hoffenheim on loan in August, and has made an immediate impact – emulating the success of his mate Sancho at Borussia Dortmund.

The former Manchester City player has been grabbing the headlines in the German media since moving to Dortmund last year, scoring five goals in 14 appearances this season as his side have reached the top of the league.

Nelson is proving to be a similar success on the continent, bagging five goals for Hoffenheim in just six appearances – and says he hopes to play alongside his old England U19 colleague again.

The 18-year-old told The Independent: “That’s my best friend! I want to play, he wants to play and hopefully we can play together some day.”

Such an impact have the two young Englishmen made, German magazine Kicker currently ranks them in the top six players in the Bundesliga this season so far.

If Nelson continues in his current vein of form, it’s possible that the on-loan Gunner will get his wish sooner rather than later, as England boss Gareth Southgate continues to blood talented youngsters.

His latest goal, a thunderous strike in Hoffenheim’s 4-1 win at Bayer Leverkusen, was probably his best yet in Germany.

He explained: “I spoke to the coach [Julian Nagelsmann] before the game and he said they sleep on corners. So I thought it was a great opportunity for me to go short.

“It’s just one of those ones which you hit and you hope for it to go in. Luckily it went into the top corner.”
